I only have a door for the front, and looking at the reinforcement put in, if mines typical, it looks like a bit of welding is in order to adequately beef up the longitudinal strength before cutting the top longeron.  If whatever you're looking at has metal sides in that area instead of cloth you could probably deskin it and make the mods.  If cloth, well, much more work I think.  Good luck and welcome - Sam
